Concert of Trio Areal

On September 21, 2025, a concert by the Swiss ensemble Trio Areal, led by Azerbaijani violinist Jamila Qarayusifli and supported by the Heritage Cultural Association of Azerbaijan, took place in Geneva.

For many years, the Heritage Cultural Association of Azerbaijan has been actively promoting Azerbaijani history and culture throughout Europe. The association’s mission is to present the richness of Azerbaijani traditions, arts, and music to a broad European audience. By supporting cultural initiatives such as this concert, the association continues to foster cross-cultural dialogue and safeguard Azerbaijan’s cultural heritage for future generations.

As part of the evening, Trio Areal presented their debut album, featuring works by Tofig Bakikhanov, Frank Martin, and Dmitri Shostakovich. The centerpiece of the recording is the premiere of Bakikhanov’s Third Piano Trio, a composition deeply rooted in Azerbaijani folk music.

The performance highlighted the ensemble’s distinctive ability to unite diverse musical traditions — from Celtic folk-inspired melodies to Shostakovich’s wartime elegy and Bakikhanov’s synthesis of Azerbaijani mugham with Western classical forms.

Founded in Zurich in 2020, Trio Areal has quickly earned a reputation for bold programming and a vibrant ensemble sound. In the concert, the audience was taken on a journey through three key narratives of the twentieth century: the search for new means of artistic expression, the drama of historical events, and the fusion of national cultures.

The debut album of Trio Areal not only affirms their outstanding artistry but also emphasizes the enduring connection between classical music and cultural identity.
