Minister of Foreign Affairs Elmar Mammadyarov met with the President of the Landtag of Liechtenstein Albert Frick

On October 11, 2016 in the framework of his official visit to the Principality of Liechtenstein Minister of Foreign Affairs of Azerbaijan Elmar Mammadyarov met with the President of the Landtag of Liechtenstein Albert Frick.

Albert Frick recalled his official visit to Azerbaijan when he also attended the closing ceremony of the First European Games. He emphasized the vibrant development and achievements of Azerbaijan. He also underlined huge progress Azerbaijan made in the field of sports and congratulated Azerbaijan for the impressive medal count of its team in the Rio Olympics.

Albert Frick stressed the role of parliaments in the development of bilateral relations between our countries while recalling his meeting and interesting discussions with the Chairman of Milli Majlis of Azerbaijan Oqtay Asadov in Strasbourg.

Minister Elmar Mammadyarov referred to the visit of Albert Frick to Azerbaijan last year and note that new opportunities emerged for political dialogue between Azerbaijan and Liechtenstein. He underlined the importance of exploring the existing potential for the development of bilateral cooperation.

The Minister elaborated on the substantial economic reforms being carried out in Azerbaijan as well as major transportation and energy projects being implemented in the region on the initiative and active involvement of Azerbaijan. He underlined the extensive opportunities for both countries to strengthen their bilateral economic cooperation. The Minister invited companies of Liechtenstein to get involved in the economic initiatives in the non-oil sector of Azerbaijan.

Elmar Mammadyarov informed his interlocutor about the recent developments in the process of settlement of the conflict between Armenia and Azerbaijan. The Minister described the existence of Armenian armed forces in the occupied territories of Azerbaijan as the main challenge to the peace and security in the region. Elmar Mammadyarov stressed that the progress in the resolution of the conflict and the change of unacceptable and unsustainable status-quo can only be achieved through withdrawal of Armenian troops from the occupied territories of Azerbaijan in full compliance with the relevant UNSC resolutions.

The counterparts also exchanged views on cooperation within the framework of international organisations and strengthening interparliamentary relations between the two countries.
